Hello, I’m Lea Ema Jakopin from Slovenia. I am currently studying for my Master's in French horn through the Erasmus program at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. My dream is to play in a big orchestra or teach music to kids. I am staying until July next year and I am available every day for a few hours (as I need to practice horn for school). I love spending time with kids; I think we can learn a lot from them, and they bring me a lot of joy. I can also help with housework. I have been teaching for 4 years in a music school, first in Slovenia, then in Austria, to kids aged between 5-18. In 2019, I also taught English to a family of 4 kids, aged between 6-13. I come from a big family, so I have been surrounded by kids all my life. I have 2 nieces, aged 13 and 17, and a nephew aged 1. For my nephew, I have been his “designated babysitter” since his birth, as my sister worked a lot. My experiences also include feeding the baby, changing diapers, etc. I've already looked after babies many times, from very small babies to bigger toddlers, so I know how to handle a small baby in the safest way possible. I would say my best quality is that I am trustworthy, very open and communicative, which helps me in unfamiliar situations. I am also responsible, punctual, and resourceful. As an artist, I always find creative things to do in life, so I am never bored. I love learning new languages and exploring new cultures. I can play the French horn (I have a Bachelor's degree), I play a bit of piano and trumpet as well, and I love to sing. I also dance sometimes in my free time and love to express myself through writing stories. I think some TV time is still important, but not too much. I was raised outside, playing and exploring — which is how I would spend time with kids as well — but those 30 minutes a day in front of the TV also gave me a lot. For example, I learned English through Disney Channel and Cartoon Network. With children, we can do activities like drawing, reading, writing, singing, dancing, and generally expressing themselves through art and creativity. I think roleplaying and playing with dolls (playing doctor, lawyer, cashier, flight attendant, etc.) has a great influence on kids, as they learn how to communicate nicely and politely with others through games. Of course, I will turn off my cell phone when I am around kids, whether teaching or babysitting. I keep my phone on Do Not Disturb but still handy in case of an emergency. They could learn good English with me, as well as express themselves in different ways, as mentioned above. I am responsible and have a strong maternal instinct, so I would never put any kids in danger and would always put their needs above my own.
